This DH boasts one of Washington’s sweetest climbs. Banking up from the
Columbia through steep, dramatic gorges of granite and basalt, the
western-most section of this well-paved route is sweeping, scenic and
beautifully engineered. Unfortunately, this DH also boasts one of Washington’s
longest straightaways. A few curves past the town limits of Waterville, you’re
drawing a perfect line across the vast wheatlands of the Waterville Plateau
with nothing to look forward to but the few paltry curves at the DH’s eastern
end. What to do? If the egotistical speed tax collectors would stop battling
each other for sportbike-tagging bragging rights, the answer would be obvious.
